Kushikatsu and The Autumn Store! 14th May 2026
w/ Falling and Laughing, Appi, Pink Opaque
At The Victoria, John Bright St, Birmingham
Falling and Laughing
Falling and Laughing are an inventive indiepop two piece. Their long history of playing together has meant they have honed a live show that contrasts quiet and loud dynamics alongside thoughtfulness and a sense of humour. Their songs are inspired by jangly C86 indie pop and that strong sense of melody and DIY ethos has followed them through their career. Over time the band have developed and increasingly drawn on ideas from post-rock that challenge and surprise convention without ever losing that early sense of fun and brevity.
Why we love them at The Autumn Store: This is a line up of two piece pop bands and Falling and Laughing are one of the best seven or eight of those in Birmingham. I joke - we were delighted to join the bill as co-promoters given the strength of the other acts and look forward to playing!

Appi
Appi are a two piece band from Kyoto and this is their first UK tour. Whilst you can also see the guitarist play in nim, Appi are pushing more towards the dreamy and melodic. They have mastered the art of writing guitar lines that shimmer underneath the vocals and catch you in the heart, and on tour they bring a lap top with them to fill out the sound. It's their first time in Birmingham (obviously - see the first sentence) and we're delighted to welcome them
Why we love them at The Autumn Store: It's just beautiful, I'm not sure how else to say it. Whenever I put them on to listen to a song I get lost down the rabbit hole of listening to swathes of the back catalogue and come out a lot happier than I went in.

Pink Opaque
Some of you may remember Pete Green from their solo performance at the first ever Autumn Store in Christmas 2006, or fronting Bearos indiepop heroes ‘The Regulars’ before even then. Pink Opaque is more than Pete though and we're delighted to see this new future pop duo spring up in Sheffield, full of all synths and future noises. For fans of Bis, Deerful, Erasure, Figurine, Hannah Diamond, Helen Love, The Human League, Icona Pop, Pipas, Red Sleeping Beauty, Saint Etienne and pure joy.
Why we love them at The Autumn Store: Yes Pete has history in Birmingham, but even if they didn't I'd be grabbing you on the street outside the venue and dragging you into the gig. You know when indiepop has clear and pure melodies, it's that basically, but this time with an electronic backing.
