Waves Crashing

Olympia’s Waves Crashing channels the iconic sounds of the ’80s and ’90s into something fresh and electrifying; pairing lush, atmospheric soundscapes with melodic hooks. Since their first EP in 2021, they’ve become a fixture of the Pacific Northwest alternative scene through a steady stream of releases and regional touring.

Why we love them at The Autumn Store: They've been on our radar for a little bit now, so when the chance came up to put them on it was a solid yes. Since we booked them they've released a new album called In The Blur which is genuinely ace - and do you listen to an album and get stuck on a song and you have to keep playing it on repeat before you move onto the next one? That happened a lot.

Healees

A ‘Paris-based shoegaze noisepop band that hails from the USA, France, Sweden and Belgium’ says the bandcamp but this undersells them. Their solid shoegaze credentials landed them a recent Ride support slot in their hometown and their latest album might also draw comparisons with bands such as DIIV, but Healees bring a lot more to the table. On last years album, Coin de l’œil, they draw on more jangly influences and reminded us that shoegaze really does work best alongside catchy tunes.

Why we love them at The Autumn Store: It's a return visit to the store for Healees, a year and a day since we had them last. If you were there last time, you'll know why we're welcoming them back! The day after their gig last year I was googling ‘how to start a shoegaze band’, ‘future Healees gigs’ and ‘what’s the cheapest way to travel to Paris for a gig'. It's jaw-dropping, room-filling shoegaze.

Falling and Laughing

Falling and Laughing are an inventive indiepop two piece. Their long history of playing together has meant they have honed a live show that contrasts quiet and loud dynamics alongside thoughtfulness and a sense of humour. Their songs are inspired by jangly C86 indie pop and that strong sense of melody and DIY ethos has followed them through their career. Over time the band have developed and increasingly drawn on ideas from post-rock that challenge and surprise convention without ever losing that early sense of fun and brevity.

Why we love them at The Autumn Store: Falling and Laughing are one of the best seven or eight indiepop two piece bands in Birmingham and are delighted to join the bill and look forward to playing!
